Rear Bumper - Converting License Plate Recess from USA to Euro Spec

Never been a fan of the square japanese spec plates so wanted to convert the recess into the oblong euro spec style.

I made a mould from a toms bumper I have on another car (with a UK plate)




Using a jig saw I cut out the original recess area



I needed to make sure the plate ended up in the middle so measured and measured again both on th emould and the bumper the centers so I could align them






It was then taped/clamped in place

First I put a layer of gelcoat on



followed by 2 layers of 100gsm



then 2 layers of 300gsm




followed by a final layer of 100gsm to give it a smooth finish



And after mould removal




Just got to do a bit of sanding to blend it in fully - will post some more pics once Ive done it and given it a coat of primer

After quite a bit of sanding its now "blended" - well almost anyway




A closer shot - as you can see theres little areas which need a bit of filling etc




I just threw on a quicj coat of colour just to highlighet where the defects are
