im having trouble with my fuel flap.
i've used the same hinge everyone seems to use but it doesnt have a spring on it like the standard hinge so when i pull the release cord the flap doesnt open. how do i get around this?
cheers, Jack

Heres a pic of a genuine 1 (TRD #15) and you can see that thesom eof the hardware including the "spring" has been reused from the original gas/fuel filler cap.
Re: fuel flap
ahhh right i see, i never noticed that before! i'll have to have a look and see if i can do the same on mine once the weather gets a bit better then. thanks!

Re: fuel flap
The catch on the flap is made from the catch on your original cap but with the "wings" on either side hacksawed off and filed down
I had to pack mine with washers and adjsut a bit before I could get it to lock/unlock properly using the pull from inside the cabin

Re: fuel flap
Can your oem fuel cap door be re-used with the trd kit or is the trd really different from the oem door on the filler cap?

Re: fuel flap
You might be able to reuse hinge/bracket but you still need to move where its mounted as the bodywork is now "thicker" in that position - see pics above.
I think some people have reused hinge/bracket by putting the hinge on the "floor" of the recess but I can see this causing drainage/rust problems

How difficult is it moving it forward to its new position?Admin wrote:You might be able to reuse hinge/bracket but you still need to move where its mounted as the bodywork is now "thicker" in that position - see pics above.

DO you have any tips, pics or suggestions of how you did this?

Re: fuel flap
Yeah I seen those pics of you fitting the fuel cap door, they are very helpful thanks. The part I meant was raising the actual neck of the fuel tank to sit in line with the new body lines.

Re: fuel flap
Do you mean like this? This is on an ultra wide body - I think the problem youll have is siting on a flat enough piece. I imagine you can buy some filler type pipe from a aftermarket racing supplier and do it. Do be careful though !!!
Re: fuel flap
No I meant like on the original.
Is their filler cap in the exact same place?
I thought it would have to be raised to match the new body shape, that was just me making assumptions.

Re: fuel flap
I'm sure it can be done - the main problem IMO is that the crease between the new bulged wheel arch and the original wing runs diagonally through the fuel filler cap.
You could always be the first then put some pics up...

Re: fuel flap
Lol if it can be done without moving it then thats how i'd do it, too much work the other way! lol
